7 Questions to Ask a Wedding Professional BEFORE Booking Them
Hiring the right persons are critical to planning and executing your dream wedding….....and it can also be quite stressful. How do you find the right match for you? How do you know who to trust? Where do you go for advice? This is not an easy task and it’s totally normal for couples to feel
overwhelmed, frustrated or confused.
It’s not like you plan a wedding every day! First things first, meet your chosen photographer to get the full experience of their personality, style and professionalism. If that’s not possible, have a phone conversation or better yet, skype! Skype has been a mainstay in my business model... This is all probably brand new to you, so be patient. Now, onto those questions...
How much experience do you have?
This is an extremely important question. Ideally, your wedding professional should have ample experience specifically with weddings. Not only will they be more skilled in their craft, this also makes them a valuable source of information and ensures that your wedding day goes smoothly.
How much do you cost?
Price is often relative, especially when you factor in experience, reputation and skill. Generally, the most talented professionals have a higher price tag because they are worth it.
How much is the deposit?
What specifically is included in your cost?
Because packages often vary, it’s likely that you won’t be able to compare one vendor exactly to the next without doing a little figuring. The lowest cost isn’t necessarily the best deal; some higher quotes include services that you have to pay extra for in other packages. Make sure you take this into account.
What happens if I cancel? What happens if you cancel?
Find out if your deposit is refundable under any conditions. Does the wedding professional have a back up plan if something happens to them?
Do you use a contract?
If the answer is No, RUN! A contract is designed to protect both you and the wedding professional. Don’t settle for a verbal agreement that won’t hold up in court.
Are there any additional fees?
Taxes, service charges and travel fees can add up quickly. Make sure you understand exactly what is included and if there are any other fees you’ll have to pay. This should be clearly defined in your contract.
If chosen wisely, with the right wedding vendors you get invaluable help and advice…for free!
What can you do to ENSURE you have a GREAT wedding day...?!?! 😉
1. Be at ease
There’s no such thing as a perfect wedding day! Controversial or perhaps drastic statement I know but what I mean is that not everything will go as planned. Once you come to terms with this fact; you will feel a lot more peace in the final planning stages and on the day.
2. Remember What's Important
Your fiancé, family, and friends. Focus on why you're getting married. You've found the love of your life and the wedding is a celebration of you both. That being said, you want it to reflect your fabulous style and taste
3. Think Outside the Box, but Be Practical
Out-of-the-ordinary locations can be undiscovered jewels. Just remember some of the hidden planning that can be involved. For example, with an outdoor venue what happens if it rains? Is there power available? What are the noise restrictions?
4. Plan months ahead
"I have plenty of time, the wedding is months away." You believe things will all work out; you just need a break from the planning for a couple of weeks. Plan ahead then just reconfirm…
5. Invite LOVED ONES
Only invite people that you know genuinely love and are happy for you. There are so many wedding hangers on and people who just want to see what you’re going to do on the day. Weddings are too expensive to fill your day with people like this. But imagine the pure joy and pride you’ll feel walking into your ceremony with loving eyes all on you.
6. Your bridal party
Your Bridal party should be true friends. You will spend the majority of your wedding day with them so it’s important that they are genuinely happy for you and want to make the day great for you. You will have the most fun and the best memories with these types of friends.
Good food – good food makes EVERYONE happy 🙂
8. Set a budget
You want to start your marriage off on the right foot… Create a realistic budget, and then find that one item you want to splurge on -- flowers, photography, or some Hi-Def Videography.
A good makeup artist is critical. This is your day to shine like the stars. You’re a celebrity for a day. It will also reflect in your wedding photography. A wedding gown requires a special kind of makeup. You will be dressed in white and you want your face to pop up. Looking flawless begins here.
10. Consider an engagement session
An engagement session is a great idea. It’s set up as a date for you two, as a break from all the planning. Relax and enjoy each other! It has many benefits: first, it will help you to get comfortable in front of a camera, especially for your wedding day. It helps you to bond with your photographer as you get to know them. I also get to know you better and capture photographs that set the stage for your big day.
